Here’s OBLI Organic’s story [in their own words]...
About OBLI Organics
As sisters, we had always dreamed of forming a family company. One that would provide us the opportunity to do work that mattered in a creative environment while keeping our family a priority. As parents to 3 boys and 2 dogs between the two of us, launching an organic clothing company dedicated to providing hip and trendy styles for children and pets while being stewards of the environment fit the bill perfectly.
Drawing on each others strengths, we truly enjoy working together. However, nothing compares to the feeling that our hard work and dedication is going to something that we believe in and ultimately will contribute to the betterment of our environment. Plus, the company provides us with a legitimate excuse to give our husbands for the endless hours spent on the phone!
What does OBLI mean?
Okay, just in case you wondered…OBLI stands for On Borrowed Land, Inc. We wanted the name to be short and sweet but we also wanted it to have meaning. OBLI is fun, but it also stands as a reminder that, in the end, we are all truly just borrowing the land and passing it on to the next generation.
Our Mission
Building on a respect for our natural surroundings, OBLI Organics is committed to offering clothing and products with a positive message about today's environmental issues. OBLI products utilize 100% certified organic resources and are produced using Fair Trade practices. It is our hope that through our products and messages we can help our customers take action to make Ecolectual™ choices that support a more organic or "green" lifestyle.
Ecolectual™
e·co·lec·tu·al [ekoh lek-choo-uh
l] adj. 1. Guided or motivated by an intelligent respect for the environment and all living creatures, 2. To take action with respect to protecting the environment
As sisters we tend to have our own language! During one of many discussions regarding forming OBLI Organics, Melissa starting using the term ecolecutal to describe us. We are intellectual (well, this may be up for debate!) women trying to promote an organic lifestyle while teaching our children to have a respect for the environment. We are ecolectuals!
In addition to our products being produced from 100% certified organic cotton using non PVC screen printing, it was important that all aspects of the business were considered. OBLI stationary and hang tags are printed using soy ink on Neena environment® paper which is FSC certified, made from 30% post consumer waste and the alternative fiber of sugar cane. Our logo stickers are made from a recycled paper and completely dissolve in water. Our gift boxes are take out containers made from 100% recycled materials and recycled tissue paper. Hemp twine is used to attach our hang tags and tie our gift boxes. We recycle, print double sided and re-use shipping boxes whenever possible.
Personally, we both drive hybrid vehicles and shop local farmers’ markets. We use cloth napkins and bring home groceries in our own bags. We recycle almost always and we try not to buy bottled water. However, we are not perfect. We strive to be good stewards of the environment but we are also constantly learning. And, sometimes life gets in the way of our best intentions. We hope that as we listen to others, read blogs and learn more, we can pass good information on to you.
